Becoming and Belonging

A wild nature vision fast in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia
dates: end of Summer (exact dates TBD soon)

We live in a time of existential risk and tremendous change. Many liken the ordeal of our global eco-social crisis — commonly referred to as “the metacrisis” — to a rite of passage for humanity. Traditionally, rites of passage are a necessary crisis in which we are separated from life as we have known it in order for life and culture to regenerate, for new worlds to be born and a new self to be made. This process keeps the heartbeat of the world alive.

Drawing on ancient pan-cultural rites of passage practices, the mission of Blue Ridge Rights of Passage (BRROP) is to support, nourish and inspire in the context of the troubled times we are living through. At the heart of the metacrisis is a widespread loss of meaning, disconnection, digital alienation, all converging in a mental health epidemic. BRROP is a direct response to this dire situation.

BRROP is a fellowship, questing in camaraderie to understand how to be in right relationship with the world, as integral members of the Earth community. We come together in this initiatory process to inspire creativity, liberate integrity, awaken our inherent gifts, and deepen our connections to ourselves, our communities, and our world.

Becoming and Belonging: a wild nature vision fast is a transformative journey for stepping out of the rush and habit of everyday life and into deep time and It’s a sacred container for asking deep questions and finding the clarity and courage to live into them. It’s a threshold crossing into what matters most, in service to the generation of Life.

“The work we have to do can be seen as a kind of coming alive...an awakening into our true nature, a releasing of our gifts.”
- Joanna Macy
